Kerry Thomas is a holistically based Licensed Professional Counselor with over 20 years of counseling experience in many different settings and with diverse populations. In addition to the traditional approaches often used in cognitive behavioral therapy, Kerry will encorporate tools, practices and strategies encompassing the totality of the person she is working with that are extremely powerful and often overlooked. After 20 years of work in this arena, it is difficult to imagine an issue that has not crossed her threshold. In your session with Kerry, you will be met with profound kindness and a deep understanding of what it is like to be human. Kerry is the mother of two grown, adult children who are her best friends. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, exploring the countryside on her motorcycle, growing her own food, and laughing at herself. She most enjoys empowering her clients to take brave steps towards living their most authentic lives.

My Approach

I draw from my training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, EMDR, and Family Systems Therapy. For clients who may be dealing with issues of chronic anxiety or depression, I am also able to include an educational component with respect to simple dietary changes that can make a significant difference in our overall sense of emotional wellness.

I enjoy working with clients who are ready to make a commitment to improving their lives and are looking for a deeper understanding of themselves and the behavioral and thought patterns which may be hindering their success. I help clients to examine their own thinking and histories in order to remove the obstacles that keep them from achieving their goals.

Clients can expect to be met with warmth, nonjudgmental compassion and empathy during our counseling sessions.

A humanistic approach informs my practice of counseling and therapy. My style is warm, collaborative, engaging, playful, direct, and flexible. My work is inspired by a deep passion and dedication to service toward understanding human psychology and human relationships. I encourage open dialogue and feedback regarding what you find helpful. I do not see the therapist’s role as that of judge or 'expert'. Rather I believe that the therapist and client must work together to help the client come to their own personal resolutions.

My intention is to create a collaborative partnership that enables clients to move away from self-blame and judgment and supports them in finding solutions that are consistent with their values and beliefs.
